Biography
Jacob DeRue is an associate attorney in the Business and Commercial Litigation practice group at Willcox & Savage, P.C., in McLean, Virginia. He represents businesses, contractors, subcontractors, business owners, and individuals in a wide range of commercial disputes, including breach of contract and fiduciary duty claims, business torts, partnership and ownership disputes, non-compete and restrictive covenant enforcement, payment claims, and employment matters. He litigates in Virginia state courts, the District of Columbia, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, focusing on identifying efficient, strategic paths to resolution — including early dispositive motions where the facts and law support them — to protect his clients’ interests while minimizing cost, risk, and disruption.
Prior to joining Willcox & Savage, Mr. DeRue was an associate attorney at BrigliaHundley, P.C., in Tysons, Virginia, where he represented corporations, closely held businesses, and institutional clients in commercial litigation and business law matters.
Mr. DeRue received his law degree from George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School, where he was a member of the Journal of Law, Economics & Policy, served as Pro Bono Pledge Coordinator for the George Mason Pro Bono Society, and held leadership roles in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society and the Scalia Law Trial Advocacy Association. He received his undergraduate degree in Political Science, Psychology, Criminal Justice, and Sociology, summa cum laude, from Thiel College, and interned for the Honorable Charles J. Siragusa of the United States District Court for the Western District of New York during his undergraduate studies.
Mr. DeRue is admitted to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia.
